In Daoist Qigong systems there are several practices by which the Wei Qi, or protective Qi is cultivated. Wei Qi is an energetic current and field that serves a a barrier from external energetic pathogens and other external influences.

From the western point of view this would imply that the immune system is activated internally through the practices.
